How Counselling Works

A supportive process, guided at your own pace

Beginning counselling can feel like a significant step, particularly if you are unsure what to expect.

The process is designed to be supportive, collaborative, and guided by what feels most important to you.

In our sessions, we create a calm and non-judgemental space where you can speak openly about your thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

There is no pressure to share anything before you are ready. We work at a pace that feels comfortable, allowing you to explore what is happening for you in a way that feels manageable and safe.

Over time, we begin to identify patterns in how you think, feel, and respond — particularly those that may be contributing to challenges in your wellbeing or relationships.

As these patterns become clearer, it becomes possible to respond differently, with greater awareness and choice.

Counselling is not about being given answers or advice. It is a process of understanding, where you are supported to develop insight, clarity, and a stronger sense of direction.

You could break this into steps:

1. Initial Session

An opportunity to discuss what has brought you to counselling and what you would like support with.

2. Exploring Patterns

Understanding how thoughts, emotions, and past experiences may be influencing your current situation.

3. Developing Awareness

Gaining insight into recurring patterns and emotional responses.

4. Moving Forward

Building new ways of responding that support your wellbeing and relationships.
