Frequently Asked Questions

Providing clarity and reassurance before you begin

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling and what you would like support with.

We take the time to understand your situation at a pace that feels comfortable for you. There is no pressure to share anything before you are ready.

It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and whether the approach feels right for you.

This can vary depending on your individual situation and what you would like to work on.

Some people find a small number of sessions helpful, while others prefer ongoing support over a longer period of time.

We can discuss this together and adjust as your needs change.

You do not need a referral to attend counselling.

However, if you would like to access Medicare rebates, you will need a referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP.

Yes, counselling sessions are confidential.

There are some legal and ethical limits to confidentiality, which I will explain clearly at the beginning of our work together, so you feel informed and comfortable.

Yes, online sessions are available and can be a flexible option if you are unable to attend in person.

Online counselling provides the same supportive and structured approach as face-to-face sessions.

I work with individuals and couples experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, emotional regulation, and difficulties with patterns in relationships and self-understanding.

It is very common to feel unsure about beginning counselling.

Taking the first step can feel difficult, particularly if you are not certain what to expect.

You are welcome to reach out with any questions, and we can discuss what you are looking for before you decide to proceed.
