At first Nancy will listen to your presenting situation and hear your thoughts or concerns. Nancy will obtain an overview of your history to gain a clear understanding of your situation .She will ask you what you want from therapy so that you can collaborate on the goals for therapy.

Counselling and psychotherapy is a collaborative process. Nancy will listen carefully to understand your concerns and she will reflect this back to you, in a way that helps to organise your thoughts and feelings.   Usually counselling and psychotherapy is  50 minutes, at a minimum, twice a week for more effective results

There is no quick fix, advice or instant solutions that offer long term change. Wanting advice, to seek immediate relief from discomfort is normal, but it does not prevent the problems from re-ocurring.  Effective change can be achieved by working through the underlying issues, creating long term change.

Many people come to therapy because they feel lost, confused and cannot cope.  Sessions allow you the space to express  your experience, so you can get more in touch with your ‘self’ and see what is going on inside. Getting to know your ‘self’ is the first step towards making changes, while uncomfortable feelings are better managed through the therapy.

Short term counselling is recommended for those who may have some adjustment difficulties or stressful life events that they want to work through.  Life can challenge us with situations that that we need to overcome in order to grow as an individual or a couple. Sometimes we feel we cannot cope, that is when short term therapy is useful. At times,  certain blind spots can  get in the way of  overcoming these difficulties on ones own. Nancy understands that no matter how strong we believe we are, there are times that we need the secure holding of a therapist to  organise our feelings or  assist us to get us back on track. As a counsellor, by listening to her client’s needs and investigating their history, to gain a better understanding of each person’s situation, Nancy can assist individuals to achieve the goals and specifics they want from  therapy.  Sometimes  the ways  people choose to deal with their problems  do not work for them. Long term  therapy is recommended for issues that are more long standing and debilitating. Long term psychotherapy works at the underlying issues at a deeper intra-psychic level.
